Let’s talk about Trauma By Nawal Lakhdar At Apricot Wellbeing CIC

Trauma

In the last few years, I have been working directly with community leaders, project managers, Directors, and CEO’s, delivering personal development programmes. The focus has been on trauma and emotional wellbeing, where the aim has been to increase participant’s understanding of trauma and the impact it has on their lives. I use Apricot’s expertise in coaching to guide our participants to increase their self-awareness, explore identity, while reviewing and re-setting their personal boundaries. The aim of the programmes we run is to create safe and brave spaces for self-discovery with a deep and meaningful reflective practice allowing all to move forward. My aim is to ensure that our participants are well equipped with tools and strategies which enable them to grow and develop once understanding more about their trauma.

As part of my own reflection and learning process, I have come to realize that we need to talk more about trauma, and that we need to create more of those brave spaces. These spaces allow us to connect with who we are emotionally as well as mentally, particularly around our fear which often holds people back. Facing our darkest fears and thoughts and making sure that they no longer in control of us, knowing how to befriend such emotions, or at least acknowledged them.

It’s important to be aware of the gap that exists between our daily behaviors and the long-term impact of unresolved trauma. This type of trauma focused work and thinking allows us to approach each action and decision with a new perspective. It is about having the tools that will help us keep a check within ourselves and the understanding of the triggers so that we are able to manage and regulate our emotions and thoughts to enable us to operate more effectively.

For me personally the kind of relationship that we have within ourselves can sometimes dictate the sort of relationships we have with others around us. All my work is about being relational, building, and sustaining relationships and understanding the need for deep, meaningful human connections, while exploring the impact of trauma on our own health and wellbeing.
